HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! (Close enough anyway)
Fun Thought:
Making New Year's resolutions dates back to the Babylonians.
Keep this somewhere in your head for New Years!: Some cultures believe various foods bring good luck and prosperity if eaten on New Year's Day.
Some examples are:
Donuts
Black-eyed peas and other legumes
Cabbage
Rice
Food for Thought:
The wonderful year of 2009 is shortly coming to a close and with the new year comes an abundance that fills the heart. An inspiring affirmation to start each day is: I give and receive with the attitude of gratitude. Abundance is ours, and I am so grateful for it! I see the abundance of God all around me--in the smiles of children, in the thoughtful gestures of people with whom I come in contact, and in the special gifts I give and receive. This time of year, when we may feel depleted of time and resources, it is time to change our attitudes. I know that all good things are readily available to me. I retain an attitude of gratitude for all I give and all I receive. I embrace and enjoy the new year with positivity, thankful for the many blessings it will bring me and knowing that abundance is mine today and every day.
Affirmation reading from the Daily Word: Presence The unconditional love of Christ lives in me. More than two thousand years ago, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. As He grew in wisdom and stature, He began to teach so that others might follow His example. Today I humbly honor Jesus by accepting His instruction to love others and myself unconditionally. Putting away all thoughts of past errors or mistakes, I allow the loving Christ nature to be born anew in me. I center my thoughts on the kingdom of Heaven, a consciousness of wholeness and holiness. I was created in the image and likeness of God, and I now accept the truth of who I am. I live in the presence of unconditional love, and the unconditional love of Christ lives in me. I pray that ... Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.--Ephesians 3:16, 17
A few more days and we will be in 2010! Oh my gosh! Where were you 10 years ago? How much has happened in the past 10 years, advancing technology, loss of family members, friends, famous people. The outstanding event that first comes to mind is the 911 Terror Attacks 2001, the worst terror attack on the US mainland in modern history, then in 2003 Tsunami - it has been called the world's first global disaster because of the toll touched so many countries. Saddam Hussein's capture (2003) and tried for crimes against humanity. Obama's US election win (2008) "defining moment change has come to America", exclaimes Obama. Beijing Olympics (2008) which showcased China's culture and country to the outside world in a way never seen before, in the process changing some perceptions of the world's largest country for good. Hurricane Katrina (2005) the worst natural disaster in US history with 80% of New Orleans was flooded, over 1.5 million people forced from their homes. Unimaginable Pakistan earthquake of 2005 in which 73,000 were killed and 3 million people left homeless by the disaster. So much to remember, think about, and continue to hold in prayer for all that has been and for all that the next 10 years has to hold. "A new year is unfolding - like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within. Dear God, let this year be filled witht he things that are truly good--with the comfort of warmth in our relationships, with the strength to help those who need our help and the humility and openness to accept help from others. As we make our resolutions for the year ahead, let us go forward with great hope that all things can be possible - with Your help and guidance."
