LOVE

Quote of the week: “Thoughts are formative; they are like seeds
that produce after their own kind”
(Myrtle Fillmore)

Historical Fun Facts:

In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.

The Italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare's lovers Romeo and Juliet lived, receives about 1,000 letters addressed to Juliet every Valentine's Day.

The Power of Love

How perfect that the power for the month of February is love!!

I have heard that love is called the universal glue. It seems to me that it is the most attracting power and it binds us together as one beautiful creation of God. For God IS love and since we are apart of God, we too are love! Unfortunately, because we are human, we sometimes make our love conditional and give it only to those we feel will give it to us in return. But this is not using the wonderful power that God gave is in the best way. If we are going to live by the truth of God, then we need to love everyone. This doesn’t mean that we won’t become frustrated or angry, but if we seek the inner Christ- the part of us that is all love- within ourselves and others, we will be living God’s truth.

Think of the people you love most in your life. Feel the love that fills you even when you just think about these people. We have the ability to do that with all people and even though it does takes a lot of practice that is the way God loves us. This week, try to let your love reach out to those around you. Give thanks for those people who make a difference in your life and remember that all we need is love!

Love through the Disciple John

To learn the history of John, the disciple of Jesus, we begin with his life before he met Jesus. John, was a partner in the fishing business before he became a disciple. John was the son of Zebedee who was also a fisherman in Galilee. John's mother's name was Salome and some say that Salome was the sister of Jesus' mother, Mary. John owned a home in Jerusalem. Shortly before the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD, John moved to Ephesus.

John pastured a church in Ephesus and he communicated with other churches in the area as stated in the book of Revelation. He advised and counseled many people who would later become believers in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

By order of the Roman Emperor, Domitian, John was exiled to the island, Patmos. Domitian ordered his exile because he saw John as a threat to his rule. However, his popularity and influence in the Christian community continued through correspondence with all the churches. John wrote the book of Revelation during his exile. When he was released from exile, he returned to Ephesus. John founded and built churches all through Asia until he was too old and died peacefully in Ephesus.

During his life, John wrote the book of John and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd book of John and the book of Revelation. Near the end of his life, it is said that he constantly repeated the phrase, "Little children, love one another!" He did that because he believed it was the Lord's most important commandment.

Love is represented by John, pink in color and located in back of the heart.
Love is our ability to know oneness with all.
Lov is our ability to desire that only good come to all.
Love harmonizes.

Affirmation: The law of God is drawing all that I desire with good for all in peace and harmony.

In Loving Prayer:

We ask that this week you keep Jo and her family in your prayers. Jo’s brother has recently passed away and we are continually sending them love and support. We see Jo and her family surrounded by God’s peace and light.
