Weekly Inspiration 1

By: Ben Georgoff
Date: 7-7-10

Fun Fact: Most people who read the word 'yawning' will yawn!

Quote: “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.”- Sun-Tzu

Bible Quote: “Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.”—Ephesians 4:4

Affirmation: I’m on my way to something great!

Goal for the Week: Set 3 Facebook statuses, or e-mail signatures, loaded with positive energy.  For example “Dear people of the world, you make me smile! Love Ben” Try it—you’ll probably get some great energy back.

Food for Thought:  When you trace the word compete back to its Latin origins, you will find that Com means “together” and petere means “to seek” or “to strive”. If you ask most people what compete means they will most likely reply with a description of something adversarial, with winners and losers. When you compare yourself with others, it creates a destructive habit. This habit de-centers you; it can lead you into living artificial truths that are not in your center. It can alter what makes you truly happy; it can take away your power for self-determination. It is hard however to not compare ourselves with others, we have grades in school, sports, video games, and countless other things that are easy to compare ourselves with. It is easy for ego to get carried away with all of these opportunities to compare our self with something or someone that is not our self. So when faced with an opportunity to compare yourself with others, tell yourself, “They are them, and I am me. We are different beings but one with God. They are not better than me and I am not better than them, because we are all just one.”

A Note From Jo:  I'm sure you have all heard the statement "everything happens for a reason" and so we will sometimes wonder "why".   For myself, I like to look at what has happened and ask myself, what were the choices and decisions that led up to the outcome?   I love what Deepak Chopra says, "I will put the Law of Karma (Cause and Effect)  into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:  (1)  Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment and in the mere witnessing of these choices I will bring them to my conscious awareness.  (2)  Whenever I make a choice, I will ask myself two questions:  "What are the consequences of this choice that I'm making? and Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by this choice?"  (3)  I will then ask my heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort.  If the choice feels comfortable, I will plunge ahead with abandon.  If the choice feels uncomfortable, I will pause and see the consequences of my action with my inner vision.  This guidance will enable me to make spontaneously correct choices for myself and for all those around me."
